Clear Channel could be sell-off target

LONDON - Clear Channel Outdoor UK could find itself an acquisition target after shareholders of Clear Channel Communications gave approval for a $20bn (£10bn) private equity buyout of the US-based parent company.

Outdoor observers predict the new owners could look to sell off the smaller elements of Clear Channel’s assets, including Clear Channel Outdoor UK, which represents the company’s sole UK presence.

JCDecaux is tipped to be the most likely trade buyer, although a management buyout and private equity bids may also emerge.
Bain Capital Partners and Thomas H Lee Partners are set to take over the parent company, which includes an extensive portfolio covering US radio, television and international outdoor advertising, as well as SFX Entertainment, the live entertainment events company.
Meanwhile, Clear Channel Outdoor UK has created a shopping package for advertisers made up of its mall portfolio and six-sheet presence on leading high streets.
The Ultimate Shopper Pack offers 400 national panels targeting about 49 million people per fortnight. The panels are spread across the UK and include 350 panels in 80 shopping malls nationwide, as well as a series of West End six-sheets.
As part of Clear Channel’s Audience Solutions approach, advertisers and agencies can access data on every panel relating their proximity to retailers and other key locations, so targeting their campaigns more closely. The Ultimate Shopper Pack’s labels include health and beauty, mother and baby, jewellery, electronic and telecoms.
